Description
Tasting Notes
Inviting nose of ripe plum and blackberry with notes of espresso bean upon initial tasting with a bold mid-palate blossoming into dark chocolate and cassis nuances cascading into silky tannins with hints of dark berry lingering on the closing. Will pair brilliantly with seared Ahi, game, grilled eggplant and Portobello mushrooms and Truffle risotto as well as young cheddar or smoked Gouda cheeses. Will cellar through 2021.
Fun Facts
Mourvedre produces a backbone to any wine when it is used in blending and creates high tannic wines which offer great longevity in the cellar even as a single varietal. There are fewer wines made solely with Mourvedre but now they are available in both France and the U.S. In Spain it is called Monastrell and in Portugal it is called Mataro. Mourvedre is a temperamental grape and needs care from vine to bottle to offer up its incredible flavor profile. Look for dark stone fruit, spice and well formed tannins and the ability to age for many years.
